Oh, I see what you're saying, Gary. OK. It's just a supposition of yours based on their recent efforts to expand their business and protect their property. I got ya.

While it is hard for me to believe that Lucent legal wouldn't have done their homework on these patent lawsuits to test their viability, stranger things have happened. Maybe it is just a stall tactic. But then Lucent would have to think that these other technologies are a major threat to its business. I guess we'll never know whether this is the case.

Regardless, Lucent's future performance is not going to be decided on the outcome of a patent infringement suit. I imagine we'll both agree on this.

I figure if Armstrong can make the AT&T/TCI deal work, our boys at Lucent can pull off a fruitful merger with just about anyone. Time will tell. I think they should buy Ascend and Nokia, personally.
