Where I'm moving to in Alameda (about 2 miles or so from Ascend) ADSL will NOT work so evenif the economics and service speeds were similar it wouldn't matter - the aging copper plant and distance makes it a no-no even at the slowest speed offered.

Interesting. I just spoke to someone with an office near Marina Village who has gotten DSL Internet service for the office at 384 Kb/s. Given the shape of the island of Alameda, if you're 2 miles from Ascend, you must be pretty near him :-).

Also, I thought you could pretty much run IDSL (144 Kb/s, bidirectional) anywhere.
