Petersons' FieldGuide, Page 34 Marble and Page 35 Contact Metamorphism. P- 34- ... forms durring regional metamorphism from another single-mineral sedimentary rock either limestone or dolostone. Like sandstone , limestone and dolostone are rocks in which ( without mineral infussion from the depths) so major change can take place other than growth and cementation of the individual crystal units. If the original sediments are fairlypure carbonates, their metramorphic sucessor becomes a coursely crystalline white or a varicolored marble, valued for decorative uses. Crustal squeezing and heat or regional metamorphism are not always necessary for the recrystallization of the limestone. Some architectural marblres grew coarse grains that will take polish with their fossils still intack.Time and burial with ample circulating groundwater solutations apparently can do the work of heat AND PRESSURE. ( as Volcanic Gasses can - Chuca Adds)... Page 35- Contact Metam.-...Sometimes Pressure and heat are not the sole factors in the metamorphism of earlier rocks . INTRUSIONS of magma ( bif Volcanos folks Chuca adds) with various accomping gasses can alter rocks in advance of the magma's arrival. Fluid magma and a panopy of volatile and metallic elements - Fluorine, Salt, and Silica in solution - wil soak into simple sediments and create a new type of rock, with different silicicate materials, such as garnet and epidote, replacing the original assortment. Ore and Gangue Materials( goodies folks) - metal sulfides and sulfosalts , calcite ( looks like Quartz Folks and sometimes WHITE Quartz Look- Chuca)Barite Quartz and Fluorite - frequentlt replace the original assembly in this CONTACT METAMORPHISM! Impure Limestones ( Chuca adds and hense their whitist Marbles as discussed) are the most interesting and most easily altered formations, white quartizite, igneous rosks, and gneiss are the LEAST altered and the LEAST LIKELY HOSTS FOR ORE DEPOSITES!...>> End of quotes mixed in when my commentary..
