rrman, FWIW , it could be that the buy on close orders are short positions being covered. there have been many days lately that the market turned up at the close only to gap down big the next day. the last hour of the market lately has not been any help in predicting the trend for the following day. similarly, globex futures are no help either. it seems that many "investors" are short term traders now. i myself have been turned totally upside down in terms of market direction. other than don sew's posts, nothing gives me much confidence on where this market is headed. these past two days have traded flat intraday, with everyone sitting waiting to pull the trigger, not knowing whether to go short or long. been tough trading lately.
