One commentator, J. Lear, hit this whole mess on the head as follows: "Starr has said that the point of his investigation is to show that no one is above the rule of law. But he is treating the President like nobody else. No prosecutor, after all, would pursue an ordinary citizen in similar circumstances or with such zeal. Perjury is a serious crime because it is only prosecuted in serious crime. If every citizen had his or her own prosecutor who actually prosecuted every lie about every sexual liaison, perjury would be about as serious as a speeding ticket. The President is in the unique position of being accused of a serious crime - but one that wouldn't be serious if everyone were treated just like him." I think this sums it up, except to add that Clinton's opposition doesn't seem to be interested in in trying to win through elections or winning a policy argument with Clinton, instead, it wants to turn their opponents such as, Clinton, into criminals, their goal is to drive their opposition out of politcs entirely. This can have only one end: the goal of one party above all others - Dictatorship.
