[WinStar Buys Four ISPs, Consolidation Quickens]

SteveG, good job finding this article. Why no PR from WinStar? I just checked their website and there's no mention of these acquisitions...

** CIOE is an ISP. cioe.com
** Internet Connection is an ISP. ici.net
** Macro Computer Solutions is an ISP. mcs.com
** Media Connection of New York: website design, intranet/extranet design, e-commerce, legacy systems integration, etc. mcny.com

Will WinStar sell off the resident customers to other ISPs?

Beginning an aggressive acquisition streak, WinStar Communications Inc. has acquired four regional Internet service providers. Financial details of the deals were not disclosed, but the method of payment was both cash and stock.

The Falls Church, Va.-based company finalized the deals late last month. It purchased CIOE Corp., based in Lafayette, Ind.; Internet Connection Inc., located in Mansfield, Mass.; Chicago-based Macro Computer Solutions Inc.; and Manhattan-based Media Connection of New York Inc.

"The addition of these organizations to the WinStar team will help solidify our market position in the regions they represent," said Darin Wayrynen, vice president of engineering at WinStar Broadband Services (formerly GoodNet Inc.).

WinStar has $700 million in the bank, but not all of it is earmarked for acquisitions. However, more acquisitions are in the pipeline, Wayrynen said.
