Thanks for your thoughts....Dont have a URL..(saw this info at my friend's....after a quick call, he confirmed that the info is in the October '98 edition, and that the rankings come from Goldman Sachs, who apparently did a report earlier this year...Also, I was wrong about Cisco..they were around 27 on the list.....)

I believe that the Red Herring's web site is redherring.com

Chuzz & ALL, I have two Dell catalogs that were mailed to me. The one dated August 1998 offers a Dell Dimension XPS R400 with a 10GB drive for $2499. The catalog dated September offers a Dimension XPS R450 with a 13.6GB drive for $2299. Both have 64MB of SDRAM and other similar features.

The price reduction, in one month, is 8%! ($2499-$2299)/$2499=0.08

Do you have any reason to believe that component pricing is dropping this fast, or even faster? I for one find this hard to believe.
