deflate:

1. to collapse or cause to collapse by the removal of contained air or gas (joe granville, abby joe, and joe b -ggggg-) (2. Hindenburg effect -ggggg-)

2. to take the conceit, confidence, or self-esteem out of.

deflation:

1.The act of or condition of being deflated or reduced in volume.

2. A decrease in the amount of currency in a country.

The indexes are hiding the whopping amount of wealth effect (currency) that has just evaporated in thin air since Greater Fools day. Since worldwide banking systems are tightening their reigns (including the IMF) that is a further contraction of currency available to get out of duck soup.

Quack Quack!

The mutual fund industry has convinced the normally prudent hard working John Q. Public that there is no risk in the stock market and that along with the lack of volitility in the market for 10 years now, has lulled people into putting a much larger amount of assets at risk. The mutual fund industry doesn't mention what a great wealth destroyer the stock market has been also for times that last a decade or more.
