Hi Clark
thought you might find this post quite informative. exchange2000.com
Many people on the general gold threads are probably thanking especially you and Henry for this superior thread..
ps. Shilling is not one of my favorites..he has made too many bad calls for me..
Blood in the Streets is another good read but again Davidson is not a favorite either..don't follow his prognostications..he has really blown it in my book big time and haven't seen him ever own up to it..
maybe he has..
After listening to Siglinger(sp) years ago on FNN,I tried to find information on deflation and came up with little..he predicted wayback
when that we were headed for deflation..way before the Asian meltdown..he stressed that a structural change was occuring in the USA
with the distribution of wealth..I have been watching it ever since..
assuming that if great wealth just flows into the hands of a few, eventually things can implode since the consumer is needed to buy goods..how many hamburgers can gates eat :-)
Also it is distressing to see that the people with the huge funds are
not the philanthropists of old..(although finally saw that Gates and wife donated 20 million to duke..haven't read anything about Buffett
giving away anything but rather just sitting on his 9 billion in cash
waiting for another opportunity to continue to be king of hill :-)

" The only way out of this is to row... like hell towards
the distant shore ahead of the wave behind us. The more oars in our leaky boat the better."

Precisely why it will be resolved because everyone's assets are on the line....some will be thinking very creatively while the majority of us row.

My concern is not with the wave but the sea surge behind it called global warming which most people so focused on the minutiae of their little capital hoard do not even see!

"The world's scientists are telling us that we need to cut our carbon emissions not by a puny 5% as specified in the Kyoto Protocol but by 50-70%...that simply means phasing out virtually every oil burning furnace , gasoline burning car, and coal powered generating plant on this planet"..Ross GelsPan..From article A GOOD CLIMATE FOR INVESTMENT..June 1998 Atlantic Monthly...

If as has been said on these threads that one key problem is over capacity to produce then my advice to the Japanese is to seize the moment and use their incredible communal capacity to act with the excess capacity and convert (in the next five year plan) to a solar hydrogen energized culture..lead the way (while the creative quiet behind the scenes leaders in the aft of the boat help us get a grip on how to let the first wave pass) and by living example the world will come to your door in the 21st century..(especially so now that the American leadership has lost its grip on reality and is focused on issues such as who is fondling who in the boat?)..mean while I hope the quiet leaders behind the scenes make sure we have the right coxswain to ensure the rhythm and direction of our efforts to deal with the first wave is optimal!
..have a good SUNday...

Clark, Thanks for the book title. Now may also be a good time to re-read the Great Reckoning. Best of luck to all.

Cheers,
