Pat - Yes there was wrongdoing; he now knows he got away with this most recent lie with only some personal embarrassment. In these cases, he now has to weigh the possibility of real punishment for himself versus having people in his administration (and his wife) be subject to punishment. Hard choice for a man of his moral turpitude.
