Carl, As Mu moves to .21 and then .18, burning cash they cannot replace, NEC moves to .18 and .15. And the only way they reduce costs is to make too many chips, which is why this overcapacity will be here until Tiger Woods hits the retirement home, unless somebody bulldozes the fabs. You do not have to build a new fab to upgrade, and that is exactly what will happen if we ever get close to breakeven again. When MU announces a re-opening, or a first opening, of Lehi, then I will believe their price rise lie.

>>The price increase is real<<

so are the losses. this time last year mu was made nearly $200 million in eps during q3 and q4. now they will lose money.

q3/q4 1997 = $170 million in eps and disaster in 1998.

q3/q4 $170 million in lps and ______________ in 1999.

-$340 million swing from 1997 to 1998.

when you lose money during this seasonal uptick you are in big trouble come dec/jan. the longs act like they've never heard of xmas before.
