If you go to Diamond's website, you'll see that they do not have 12 meg Monster II's available to be ordered from them. It's been that way for a few weeks. I was at my local Best Buy today (Overland Park, KS). There was only one CL V2 card in stock (12 megs). The Diamond shelves were empty. The STB TnT shelves also were empty but there was a fair amount of Diamond TnT and CL TnT (PCI version).

I've also noted that the online inventory number of Diamond Monster II cards has been shrinking. I'm hoping that they'll order a bunch more chips more the xmas season. I guess their turnaround time is fairly short if they'll allow themselves to run out this close to xmas. I may phone them early next week to see if they're planning on continuing to make the card. I hope so, I'm planning on going SLI around xmas time and (even with the new reference drivers), I want the same two boards in my PC.

I know that companies do play games with inventory numbers at quarter end. I'm wondering what 3DFX's inventory will be like - they had tons of V2 chips in house last quarter and have warned about much lower sales than they were expecting.

If it is true that they were not talking to Diamond and Creative Labs about their inventory levels, they deserve to be reprimanded. When a customer is as big as those two are to 3DFX, you need to be in their shorts.
