Lucent Wins $30 Million Brunei Contract

MURRAY HILL, N.J. (Reuters) - Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU - news) said it received a $30 million contract to build
Jabatan Telekom Brunei's (JTB) telecommunications network infrastructure. The contract includes the design, supply and
support of an optical transport and access network infrastructure using optical fiber technology, Lucent said.

The infrastructure project will provide JTB with a high capacity optical network, which will allow JTB to offer customers more
bandwidth and very high communication speeds for multimedia and data applications, Lucent said.

Lucent said it expects to complete the project in 11 months.

The network will also meet the large bandwidth requirements for upcoming international events to be hosted in Brunei
Darussalam, such as the SEA Games 1999 and the Asia Pacific Economic Conference's (APEC) Summit 200 0, the company
said.

Jabatan Telekom Brunei (JTB) is one of six departments under the Ministry of Communications.
