Hi alan w; Election should be fun for republicans:

Polls, polls, polls
Polls for four statewide races in three Midwestern states find
Republican candidates holding big leads. National Journal's
Hotline reports that Iowa Sen. Charles E. Grassley is leading
his Democrat challenger, former state Rep. David Osterberg,
by more than 40 points. Six weeks before the November election,
the Iowa Poll of 800 likely voters shows Mr. Grassley with 65
percent support, Mr. Osterberg with just 21 percent. Also in
Iowa, a Mason Dixon poll of 817 likely voters shows Republican
Jim Ross Lightfoot leading the governor's race by more than 20
percentage points. The poll showed Mr. Lightfoot with 54 percent
and his rival, Democratic state Sen. Tom Vilsack, with just 32
percent. In Ohio, a Mason Dixon poll of likely voters shows
Republican Gov. George Voinovich with 56 percent support, while
Democratic challenger Mary Boyle has just 28 percent support.
In Illinois, meanwhile, a Mason Dixon poll shows Democratic Sen.
Carol Moseley-Braun with only 37 percent support -- trailing her
challenger, Republican state Sen. Peter Fitzgerald, who is backed
by 46 percent of those surveyed.
