Great big grin. Funny story about "copper". When the Parks & Wildlife
Dept. took over Matagorda Island they assigned 3 wardens and one sgt. to it. They worked 2 days on & 4 off. One of the wardens was an industrious fellow and he begin to eyeball the miles and miles of abandoned power lines running to and over the airbase. He checked with the Fed on the island and was told that it was declared surplus. He started "mining the copper" when it was about .80 a pound. The powers that be with our dept, knew about and did not think anything of it until they found out how much money he was making. They then said "time out" you cant do that. He continued until the dept gave up the island. He is retiring next month and I made him a plaque consisting of a telephone pole mounted on a maple base with short strands of CUT OFF copper wire dangling from the crossarm. The inscription is going to read "And he did it right under their Nose" (g)
