A possible Clinton scenario:

1. Ken Starr and his Republican supporters could not nail Clinton on previous wrongdoings but did learn of his weakness for willing women in the course of the investigation.

2. Monica was a setup from the very beginning of the affair. The fact that she noted some detail, such as a phone call received and who it was from, or exactly who was on guard duty, as defining evidence for each encounter. The fact that she did not clean the dress. The fact that she kept extensive notes. The fact that she communicated the affair to Linda Tripp, a Republican and known Clinton hater. These and other facts point to the possibility, but not certainty, of a planned setup.

3. If it was a setup, the President pleads entrapment and conspiracy.

4. The public forgives Clinton's weakness and rallies around his entrapment defense. The entrapment is viewed as an attempt to circumvent the public's elected President.

5. The Republicans suffer a major defeat in the November Congressional elections.

Good news still abound for stocks to respond positively, good for INDU
8500 or S&P 1080, which definitely means no immediate urgency to cut the Fed Funds rate. I am looking for continuing 950-1050 trading channel for another three to five weeks, and enough to frustrate both bulls and bears.

Look at some of the news this weekend. All smokescreens, just to delay the inevitable for a few more weeks.

WALL ST WEEK AHEAD/Matinee Monday, then back to business.
Shaughnessy pointed to China as another key. According to data released last week by the Xinhua news agency, China remains on track to achieve its goal of 8.0 percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth
in 1998. If accurate, the forecast would ease worries of a devaluation in China, something analysts say would spark a new round of turmoil in a region still reeling from last year's currency assault. biz.yahoo.com
