Hi Clark, <OT>

Do you work for Qualcomm? It is typical for them to jump instantly on anyone who ever says anything negative about the company (reminds me of EST or Scientology).

Of course producers of chips, handsets, infrastructure, or services for the cdmaOne network have to pay royalties.

As to 3G W-CDMA, which may not be compatible with cdmaOne if many European manufacturers have their way, there are mixed opinions as to whether Qualcomm IPR is required. I have seen several EXPLICIT statements from some executives that it IS NOT. I think everyone would like to see a unified international 3G standard, but not everyone sees the need to base this on cdmaOne. Qualcomm is holding back on their IPR in an attempt to sway the standard over to at least compatibility. While this may be in their self interest of survival, it shows a weaker hand to "argue the law" rather than "argue the facts", which in this case is the technology. Jim
