Johnathan, that's probably one of the most coherent posts I've seen that very nicely describes the role of a prosecutor. The check against his "sifting" is the grand jury, and if the defense has adequate evidence to the contrary, the two parties meet in court.

It's a time-proven system. You may not like it, but as the old saying goes, one may not want to know how sausages and laws are made.
