I've been to my congressman's office a number of times. On specific issues.

Michael,

Well, I haven't made the walk lately, but I suppose the distance - something over 10,000 miles - might excuse me.

My observation on the American political system is that the process of attaining political prominence seems particularly slanted toward removing anyone who has dignity and integrity, presumably because the managers behind the scenes, from both parties, prefer malleable figureheads. Individuals with dignity and integrity would be threats to the entire system of entrenched interests, and we couldn't possibly have that, could we?

Steve

<How many people on the feelings thread have actually tried
walking down to their local Congresspersons office to meet them?>

I have never done that, Michael, although I have worked on some presidential political campaigns. Nothing big, envelope stuffing etc. Does that count?

I did write a very long email to all the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee this weekend, telling them what I thought about the Clinton scandal. That is not exactly like going to my local Congressperson's office, but really I have never had anything to talk about. I do drive very close to Senator Dianne Feinstein's big gingerbread mansion when I take my child to school, though. There have been suggestions that she would make a good vice-president under Gore.
