Traders keep an eye on share prices, which lost 321 points to hit a new 12-year low

TOKYO - Japan, with a worsening economy and chaos over how to solve a banking crisis, was hit on Monday by news that its government bonds were no longer universally seen as belonging among the world's safest investments.
London-based credit rating agency Fitch IBCA, one of the major groups that rates the ability of countries and companies to pay off their debts, became the first to say that Japan's foreign-currency bonds were no longer of triple-A class.

The step was unprecedented among major ratings agencies since they started rating Japan after World War Two.
