Michael, Yes, it can happen, especially in local races. Problem is that once these people move into office, they are easily boxed out by the entrenched powers. Has Ms. Smith actually had any success in getting a campaign finance reform agenda adopted? I'd guess not. The only thing that can save American democracy, IMO (or at least keep it democratic) is informed participation by the electorate. Funny how in a time when information is so easy to come by, informed participation seems so rare. Steve
