I completely agree that Singapore is run by control freaks. But I can also think of instances where buybacks may be abused by a small minority at the expense of the majority of shareholders. For example, using buybacks to boost the EPS and thus share price by major shareholders, when the money is required for working capital or capital expenditure. This can happen, and I believe people have been accused of precisely this in the US.

Anyway, just hold on for about a month or so :-)
