No TDFX is not Intel, It's Broadcom...

Or at least Ballard seems to be comparing the two:

"Take that same revenue rate and profitability rate and look at Broadcom, a
company that's also a service provider that just happens to be in the set-top
box business, and they've got a multibillion dollar market cap. So it's a matter
of time we believe before the market sort of turns its gaze and sees that we've
executed well for a number of quarters and that we've grown this business, that
it may have some occasional ups and downs, but so does General Motors --
every company has occasional ups and downs. The question is, do you think
that the trend line overall is up? "

Read this statement very carefully. "Also a service provider that just happens to be in a set top business." How is it that Ballard has the Broadcom data memorized and readily compares it to 3dfx's valuation levels? Am I the only one reading in between the lines here?

Now imagine a set top device that has a CPU with an Integrated 3d core or at least on to the motherboard using a proprietary but speedy interface. This CPU could be designed around the 3d core to be totally optimized for 3d speed, including parallel geometry acceleration. Consider it a console system that has access to the entire market of PC games giving it great content. Imagine a $400 set top that could kick the 3d ass of anything PC on the market. Let's face it, Intel is targeting workstations. Who's targeting games?

It's my opinion that set tops are the "multibillion dollar market" he was speaking about. Too bad it must remain my opinion until 3dfx can verify it as fact or fiction.

P.S. With broadcom's market cap 3dfx would be selling for about 180 right now. Note that even Broadcom's projected EPS are nowhere near 3dfx. Pardon me while I puke.
