What confuses me is when people say "capitulation bottom". The fact that it is a bottom means that the balance between demand and supply is shifting. Who exactly is capitulating at the bottom? And what is the difference between "a bottom" and a "capitulation bottom"?

What you said about "capitulation" is correct.

As a long, I think of "capitulation" as "crying uncle." I accept my losses and sell. En masse, that creates a bottom.
