how many times do the major channels air something for four hours with NO COMMERCIALS...is this a first????

The only other times I can think of were JFK's funeral and the Apollo 11 moonwalk, both of which preceded the "we'll run a commercial anytime mindset."

After President Kennedy died, television stations stopped programming, never mind commericials. Nothing but funeral music and pictures of the fallen chief, with breaks for news on the assassination, state funeral, and that conveniently abbreviated transfer of Mr. Oswald. :-O

The first day of Desert Storm may have been commercial light, as well. A TV was not available to me when hostilities started.
