With the U.S. economy expected to lose steam over the next few months,
the U.S. Federal Reserve is expected to cut short-term interest rates -
probably by 25 basis points - in the, first half of 1999. Provided that the
Canadian dollar remains relatively stable, the Bank of Canada is expected to
follow the fed's lead. Additional interest-rate cuts by the Bank of Canada
could be in store next year if the Canadian dollar regains some ground
vis-…-vis the U.S. dollar.
