Just take the money out of the executive and legislative branches. We pay almost $ 50 billion to fund the running of these organizations. Nothing justifies the high level of staffing in the White House and Congress.

Eric,

Both the White Water & the Iran-Contra Investigations were high-way robbery of the American taxpayer by political enemies of the Administration that was in office at the time of both incidents.

Instead of the Republican & Democratic parties raising sufficient $$$s to conduct their political campaigns, they were using "investigation" as a tool to skewer their political opponents in order to win the subsequent elections.

We, the taxpayers, were the big losers in both episodes.

Ann

Eric, what do you think of the new fourth branch of government with unlimited powers to persecute anyone? So the next president will have his own independent counsel set up now,for his term in office. Should every president be allowed to at least pick his independent counsel first, like the old gladiators? Pick you opponent and lets get on with it. How about throwing some lions in for fun?
I thought the independent counsel had opened up a potential pandoras's box with Nixon. I had hoped our nation would not come to this, but it has. And there is absolutely no way to abolish independent counsels, they are not duly elected, nor are they liabel to the rules of our court system. They are just a runaway bull(Starr) destroying the China shop of democracy. Hey I hope we don't end up like China!
