Stewart - it is one of the service industries that have cropped up over the last few years of working with JIT. There are dozens of pretty good-sized firms that are nothing but physical middlemen who make tiny margins on high volumes by specializing in just this kind of thing. They range from the arcane (i.e., backhaul load matching in trucking) to the more technically elite things like factoring, and the general technique is to spread your specialized capability across customers who are not as good at it as themselves. Pretty soon, we'll all be so specialized we won't be able to do anything! <g> Mr. K.
