I did not vote for Clinton because Gore was number two. Very few people did. I didn't know much about Gore, and still don't know all that much. The reality of modern American politics is that the Vice President is appointed by the successful party front runner. And except perhaps for some really strong pre-existing supporters from his own state or something, the VP doesn't make much difference in the results.

I also didn't vote for Clinton because he was the Democratic party's choice. I voted for him each time because I found HIM preferable, and better able to lead the country in the directions it then needed to go, than each of his two opponents.

As an illustration, I voted for Bush (the first time) despite Quayle. Quayle was certainly a negative. But in the end I decided the odds were strong that he wouldn't matter. So I mostly ignored him.

So yes. Impeaching Clinton would indeed be upsetting the election for most people who voted for Clinton.

Standing ovation for Clinton in the U.N. before the testimony tape was far along (and they weren't watching anyway). Very unusual. So much for the argument that the rest of the world no longer respects Clinton or the U.S. because he is still our Pres.

Dow starts the day down 200 in worry over the tape's content. By the time the tape was over the Dow was in positive territory.

There are a lot more Republican runners of money, whether for mutual funds, pension funds, hedge funds, or personal money, than there are Democratic ones. Lots more. But they also tend to be very smart people with very accurate judgment about the likely effects of breaking news.

A big negative turned into a positive for the stability of the Country. I.e., the market was betting this makes interminable impeachment quagmire less, rather than more, likely.

We don't want Gore, jlallen.

Don't worry, if the hypocrites in congress have their way, we'll have to endure months if not years more of this bloodless civil war.
