John, I was there too...but I got to ask a couple of questions... 1. In order for the federal gov't to function, the infrastructure (electricity, water, transportation, etc.) in and around D. C. and federal gov't pay checks have to work. Answer: Different offices are responsible for gov't pay checks and are working on that and the infrastructure is owned privately! The local gov't and GSA need to address that. (JOHN, I THINK THAT EMINANT DOMAIN IS APPROPRIATE HERE AS NATIONAL SECURITY IS AT STAKE! IF THE FEDERAL GOV'T CAN'T OPEN ON 1/1/2000, THE CODE CORRECTIONS DON'T MATTER!) 2. IBM told the FAA that its main frames would not work. So, the FAA had to buy new machines. Question: Isn't the gov't full of IBM and other old mainframes full of embedded chips? Logically, they shouldn't work either! Are they being tested? Answer: The FAA is making progress and should be OKAY. These answers gave me no comfort. IMHO SEE: theaustralian.com.au I disagree with Jim Lord comment that the questions were not good ones. It appeared that the answers were difficult. THE MOST ALARMING THING SAID: Mr. Koskinen said he provides the President a quarterly written, private report! Clearly, a face to face WEEKLY OR DAILY REPORT would be better... Mr. Koskinen has a very tough job...I WOULDN'T WANT IT! He was appointed late and he follows the President's orders. He has little time and few resources...an Indian not the chief! This problem is huge...my opinion only...other opinions?
