11:06 Defensive, Multinational Stks Up If Rates Drop: Strategist

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Defensive growth and multinational stocks could thrive
into the new year, according to A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. Chief Equity
Strategist Stuart Freeman.

Over the next several months, "we think the Fed has a good chance of dropping
rates," Freeman told CNBC Monday, suggesting that a rate cut would help these
stocks.

Defensive growth and multinational stocks were hurt by the dollar's strength
in the last few quarters, Freeman said.

"A decline in the dollar later in the year would create an attractive
environment for these stocks," he said. A decline could add "2% or 3% operating
earnings growth for these stocks."

Freeman likes Pfizer Inc. (PFE), Procter & Gamble Co. (PG), Coca-Cola Co.
(KO) and First Union Corp. (FTU).

Da Bull, the strategist apparently agrees with you. Recalling the pessimism over LLY's Evista's sales a couple of months ago and its making new highs recently (doing well today as well), I have high hopes on PFE's price recovery as well.

The recent disappointment and lowered expectation on Viagra's sales in North America and future sales in Europe bodes well for Pfizer's future stock price. Viagra will be approved for sale in Canada in November, will probably be approved for sale in Hong Kong by the end of this year (look for exceptional high sales figure here, since the blackmarket V for China would be obtained here). Approval in China would come before the end of 1999. China will be a big market, though probably not as big as Japan, not because of the demographics, but because most of the ED population in China could not afford the drug.
