U.S ACCESS oil price rises after API supply report
LOS ANGELES, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Energy futures prices rose in after-hours trade on Tuesday following a report that signaled a drop in U.S. oil supplies, traders said.
Crude oil inventories dropped a sharp 9.1 million barrels to 316.8 million barrels last week, according to the trade group American Petroleum Institute (API). That drop gave after-hours energy futures a boost on concerns the falling supplies would send prices higher in the near-term.
''Everything's following the crude,'' data, an ACCESS trader said.
By 1700 PDT on ACCESS, the after-hours trade session, November crude oil futures rose 19 cents a barrel to $16.03 on volume of 5,517 lots, with 3,575 lots changing hands for November contracts.
Prices had earlier moved up in anticipation of the inventory data. On the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), prices for crude oil ended up at $15.84, rising 17 cents a barrel on the day.
ACCESS unleaded gasoline tracked crude higher with the October contract price reaching 46.25 cents a gallon, up 0.03 cent a gallon from the NYMEX settlement
Volume hit 165 total lots, with 108 traded for October.
Heating oil futures rose 0.33 cent a gallon to 42.49 cents a gallon, with volume at 188 lots for all months.
