Voice-Over-IP Products Unveiled

Corporation : Several companies last week
previewed products that will deliver voice
over IP networks.

NetPhone Inc. introduced the NetPhone
Connect IP telephony gateway and NetPhone
Connect Intranet PBX, which run on Windows
NT servers. The gateway lets voice calls
travel in IP packets over an intranet, and the
PBX product routes calls within an office.
They will be available early next year for
$15,000 and $22,000, respectively.

Xacct Technologies Inc. introduced
XacctUsage, a billing system that lets
enterprises charge their departments for all
types of IP calls. The base price is $25,000.
"We need to be able to show our customers
specifically what it cost to deliver multimedia
training," says Jason Wilcox, a network
analyst with training company 4C Solutions
Inc.

Clarent Corp. and Fortress Technologies plan
to develop encryption technology for sending
voice and fax traffic over IP-based virtual
private networks.
