Damn you sure write a lot! <ggg> OK. I'm trying to keep up... Here's a few points: that innovative companies are born all the time, and one could, and probably will, one day, unseat Dell.... I think this is all I've been trying to say...albeit not successfully. The fact that you have agreed that this "COULD" happen is a move in the right direction. Moreover, not only could it happen - it will - guaranteed. As for my second paragraph where I said that "any competitor can do this" in reference to building a DELL-like model, that was probably too strong of a statement admittedly. However, there are likely to be competitors to DELL either within the industry or in the future industry where convergence will be king and the PC will become an in-home appliance. I can't say for sure where it'll come from. If I did I certinaly wouldnt be spending my time here. I'd be floating my resume to that company. ;) You see, the trouble is that everyone looks to the DELL-model as being so good that folks (well the bulls anyway) believe that it can't be knocked off - either by more effecient models, changes in cost structure, changes in technology, changes in purchase behaviors, etc.. I think this is short sighted and I think that is all I've tried to say - again - not very well. As for your analogy about the hurricane. Well, guess what, one day the forecasters are going to be right. Let me add to the analogy... Each hurricane has a target - your home. However, your home has such great defenses that the hurricanes are thwarted (I guess you have a really big fan <g>). Anyway, one day a hurricane is going to develop enough force and is going to blow right through your town - fan and all....each hurricane learns a little more and passes that information to the next. Eventually the hurricanes will have the knowledge and force to successfully smoosh your house. :( It's a fact - look at history. It happens all the time. As for risk... the PC market is full of risk. The forecasters have stated the risk and the bulls have ignored it. It's like the forecaters (of hurricanes) telling townspeople that there is a massive hurricane coming and everyone ignores them. OK maybe the hurricane misses, but those forecasts are accurate - there's a storm a brewin...one day it'll hit. Question is, will it be next year,... the year after - I don't know. I certainly don't think it'll be this year - that's why I'm long, but I've presented signficant amounts of data here regarding competitive technologies or innovation that will have a serious impact on the PC industry. MOst of it has been ignored. I posted a little piece re: WebTV today - not one response. I posted data on the cable industry and convergence...there's another today that came out. No, I didn't post it because this information is ignored. That is the townspeople don't want to be warned about the storm... In fact, they're not even bying plywood to board up the windows. It's like denial. Well, my friend I left Florida (hypothecially speaking) long ago. I'm holding a bit a land cuz the folks from the N.E. are making land values go up. I want to take advantage of that...but I'm not banking my life and the moment I see that storm look real - bang...sell the farm. ;) OG
