The question is what is MS interest in this? If they can't use this as a application to force heritage computing onto a Windows NT platform; there doesn't seem to be a big payoff for MS at the end of the day.

IMHO, MS is planning to take market share from Quicken and add it to MS Money market share, eventually putting Intuit out of business. That is the way Bill thinks (only room for one). He leads in OS, Suite, and Browser(???). He wants home finance. His target is Intuit, not Checkfree. If he succeeds (I'm betting that he won't), CKFR will be a casualty.
