I doubt this is a rumor. It's common practice for executives to do this sort of thing, and it is perfectly legal. They always explain it as "diversifying my portfolio" if cornered on it, but you can be pretty sure that Bezos is hedged. Like I said, legal, but it certainly wouldn't help perceptions of the investing public.
