Why would Rambus be unsuitable for servers?

Unsuitable is a bit too strong here. Rambus layout has very tight tolerance. Each rambus module must be built to certain specifications and only one module can be attached to each rambus port on the processor. There is a limited number of ports on the current processor design and there is a limit to the size of each memory module.

This limits will grow as new processors are released with more ports and as the underlying DRAM chips are made to hold more bits.
