Thanks for a funny post Jeff. At least you have a good sense of humor about it. I too have done things like that. One thing you might want to mention to your wife, in the early stages of a bull market, you should be a "long term" investor. Near the end and in a bear market, you should be a trader. Just a thought...

STBI and other boardmakers' future.

I'm interested to hear what others think about the future of boardmakers. It seems like STB is very reliant on nVidia and 3Dfx remaining in the chip design business. If either began making the boards themselves STB and the others would be in deep trouble. Diamond and Creative have their sound card businesses, but could that support them? I doubt it.

In the past the barrier to entry in 2D/3D chipsets might have been low enough that a new chip designer could move into the vacuum left by nVidia or 3Dfx, but now the performance standards are high enough that even Intel/Lockeed-Martin could only produce a low end chipset.

What happens to Diamond, Creative Labs, and STB if nVidia and 3Dfx start making their own boards (or if 3Dfx does, and nVidia just goes out of business :)
