I think we can assume that buying now will look very, very smart in another 8 years, but the next month or two could be pretty tough.

8 years is a very long time; I think 2 years is more likely. Amat should have less tax-selling pressure this year than year-end 97.

Received 400 shares via Sept. 25 put assignment.

Re: "We have a real problem with political leadership throughout the world, our fed talks like we are not an oasis, but acts like we are, and our financial companies have gotten the sh** kicked out of them speculating on currencies, a grotesque indicator of their arrogance and stupidity."

I just had to see those words of wisdom one more time. May I print them out, frame them, and hang them in our entrance way?

Best wishes,

I2

Eugene: re: "arrogance and stupidity"

CNBC commercials heard while listening to Greenspan:

"If your idea of the long term is 1 1/2 hours, then we want to be YOUR internet broker"

"It's your money. Let us help you take out a home equity loan equal to 125% of your home's value".

"Properly positioned in the right currency derivatives, YOU could have made 100% in a few days recently. Let us teach you the secrets of the pros."

Lots of people making a living selling loaded guns to children.

BTW, did you short more AMAT when it got another bruise on its head today, bumping up against 26?

Update on Zapata, (you remember, that fish oil/internet conglomerate we talked about a while ago): after a brief visit into the 20s (does every stock get it's 15 minutes of fame?), it's back to 12. (If my PC had a couple of Merceds in it, I could insert here the sound of air escaping from a balloon.)
