daddycool,

Quite frankly, this may be what everyone needs is
a trial in the U.S. Senate. This has happened once
before with Andrew Johnson. The trial was *very*
political. President Johnson was a Southern Democrat
that became president after the assasination of
President Lincoln. The Republicans were angry of
course, that a Southern former slave owner was
President only 6 days after the war was over. The
whole event was in fact, an attempted overthrow of
the U.S. Government by a band of Southern conspirators.
The charge against Johnson was a trumped up case of
him firing his Secretary of War (for his role in
destroying the South). The Republicans in the Senate
wanted Andrew Johnson's hide and said that only the
Senate could get rid of a Cabinet Member. Johnson
survived the Impeachment vote by 1 Senator, a Republican
who said that after he cast the vote against impeachment
in the Senate Chamber, he "looked down and saw his grave".
The reason he cast this vote was because he did not want
to burden future Presidents with not being able to fire
Cabinet Members. That my friend, was a profile in courage!!!

God help us and the Constitution in the coming months...
