An interesting statement... Was the quote from the chairman made last week? I can't believe that it is, or if so, then the scop has got to be a typo or something. Anyway, I don't know that the statement is at odds with SAP having an SFA offering early next year... they're probably smart enough to realize that their first offering won't be great, and probably believe that by 2002, they'll have all the kinks worked out and be fully competitive with anyone. In fact, in order for them to fully compete by 2002, I'd think that they'd have to be planning initial releases of those applications fairly soon.
