Why will this stock even recover at all? If so, how long and what does it take for this issue to turn around and go up? ASND has done all it can and now only trades half its all time high. I wonder if CIEN will ever see 90 at all.

pass pass, I think its safe to say the stock will never see 90 in any meaningful timeframe for people here. They will have long since been bought out, or ceased to exist.

Hypergrowth stocks (like both ASND and CIEN used to be) can't remain this way forever (remove DELL from this statement). ASND came on rough times, took 6-9 months to turn the company around, and is once again a growth company, with good prospects. When ASND traded at 80, they were simply overpriced, just as CIEN was at that price.

At some point, all stocks must trade on their underlying growth prospects. CIEN will be experiencing negative growth for the next 6 months at least. If and when the company can show consistent earnings, they will be priced accordingly with a PE of perhaps 25-30 (reflective of their actual growth potential).

Can they turn the company around on their own? I think yes, given time, but I am by no means sure of this. LU, NT, ALA and host of other much larger companies will continue to eat away their market share. I believe that CIEN must merge with one of the bigs, or they will face a very uncertain future.
