AMD Chip. I suspect that this may well put some pressure on Dell as well, because Dell only uses Intel CPUs.

Dell is always under pressure. They are pretty good at pushing that pressure back onto the supplier (Intel). Still $400 is a lot of slack for Intel to absorb. It will be interesting to see if AMD can really deliver in quantity. If so, Intel will probably match most of the difference, if not they will let Compaq take orders that they can't deliver.
