<<LONDON, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Economic conditions in Britain may worsen over the first half of 1999, independent research consultancy NTC said on Tuesday, given the downward trend of its leading indicator in recent months.

NTC's leading indicator fell in August for the ninth month in a row to 99.3 from 99.6 in July, when it first fell below 100.0, its long-term trend level, since the middle of the last recession in March 1991.

The main factors in August were "disappointing numbers of new car registrations in the month, another fall in consumer confidence and a high yield curve driven upwards by interest rate pressures," the NTC said in a statement.
