(OT) Dan,

I would roughly guess that less than half of murders in Canada would be as a result of a gun since they would have to be commited with a rifle or shotgun (handguns in Canada are tightly restricted and almost banned - to the dismay of PMS Witch it appears). This makes the gun an inconvenient murder weapon of choice. I am just trying to recall the murders in our city (about 15 this year) and I would guess that most were either with a blunt weapon or by hand. Maybe 4 of 15 were by gun.

As for statistics gathered by the UN comparing Canada to the US.

Avg Life expectancy for Males: Canada: 75.6 US: 72.5
Avg Life expectancy for Females: Canada: 81.4 US: 79.3
Intentional Homicides per 100,000: Canada: 1.7 US: 9.9
Infant mortality (Deaths / 1000): Canada: 6 US: 9

I think these numbers do more to show the difference than all the griping PMS Witch can muster up.

If one want to compare several of the other factors to compare the US to Canada or any other country then they can play of the following site:

Cheers,

Toy

Dan,

>> I do recall round numbers about gun deaths in the U.S. versus Western Europe and Japan. We got 20000+/year, they got about 100/year. Yes, they're all smaller, maybe by a factor of 5, not a factor of 200.

An interesting correlation would be to prove that we have 200 times as many reboot/reinstall/reformats of Windows as Europe or Japan. When 40% of households have Windows and a firearm, its just a matter of time.

Cheers,

Norm
