I'm looking into buying a Superdisk external drive.

Also known as the LS 120. I have three internal drives on each of three computers. I rarely use them. The computers are networked and also have GB removable media so I do not have a need.

I purchased the drives as I thought they would replace the floppy. They are backward compatible. I presumed they would become the drive of choice on laptops as only one drive bay would be needed for floppy and a backup solution.

The drives did not attach to the floppy controller. They were IDE drives. There were configuration complexities. It was difficult to get them to replace the floppy. They worked better as drives in addition to the floppy drive. The bios in my machines does not support the LS 120 which was part of the problem. Most new bios's support the LS 120.

There are now more options. SCSI is available.

I do not have any complaints about performance. They format very quickly and the speed is significantly faster than a floppy. I have never used the 120 MB media.
