What "Clinto zealots" are you talking about? The only zealots that are in evidence are of the anti-Clinton variety. Check out their websites!

There are plenty of Starr-bashing sites, too. Both sides are equally guilty of attracting the more rabid elements of their groups. Be fair.

The people who tend to support Clinton in the current controversy are, if anything, rather lukewarm, generally arguing only that

1) Starr's team had no business snooping into the President's sex life

They were tasked to "snoop" by the Attorney General, only after credible evidence of criminal conduct was presented. Why aren't you throwing stones at her?

2) it is not worth disrupting this nation's political life over so trivial a matter.

I agree wholeheartedly. There are much more serious investigations that are being heard by Starr's other two Grand Juries: Filegate, Whitewater, Castle Grande, Travelgate, and the Madison Guarantee fiasco. The last item cost taxpayers $60 million in bailout fees after Governor Clinton allowed it to stay open despite regulators' recommendations it be closed on grounds of insolvency and mismanagement. It was run by the McDougals, personal friends of the Clintons. At the very least, it looks as if there was a conflict of interest.

Still to come: the Attorney General's decision on whether or not to pursue campaign finance law violations, including allegations that missile guidance technology and/or classified material was sold to the Chinese to raise DNC cash.

Serious charges, indeed.

Tell me JBE, many Clinton supporters say he is doing a good job, this is supposedly reflected in his job ratings. So...what has he done? Can you tell me a few particular items he has done in the last 8 months?

<< I personally did not vote for Clinton. But I simply cannot understand the depth of the virulent hatred the anti-Clinton fanatics profess. >>

jbe, Your considered post deserves a response from a "moderate" anti-Clinton "fanatic".

While I do not believe that lying about consensual sex, in and of itself, is sufficient grounds for impeachment, there are other considerations. Clinton's performance, and I do mean performance, over the last 7 months has revealed to be true what many of us have felt for the last six years. W. J. Clinton will do or say whatever is expedient! He is a chameleon, saying whatever the "polls" direct. He has NO core values (read principles) other than self-aggrandizement and self-preservation. He is an insidious danger, and has effectively contributed to reducing this country's values to the lowest common denominator. Is this a man who is fit to lead this country any longer?

I suggest that we all wait until the other shoes drop. Does any reasonable person not feel now that there may be much more credibility in other allegations?

G. W.

I find it so amazing how you and others keep trying to blame Starr for this whole mess.

In 1978, it was a Democrat Congress that wrote the Independent Counsel law and a Democrat President that signed it into law! It was the Democrats that used the Independent Counsel law against the Republicans about 60 times during their 12 years in the White House. It was THIS Democrat President that renewed this law (the Republicans have always opposed this law and opposed Clinton renewing it) and it was a Democrat Attorney General that requested an Independent Counsel to look into Whitewater and it was this same DEMOCRAT ATTORNEY GENERAL that expanded his investigation to cover Monica. Why aren't you mad at Janet Reno too? Or why aren't you mad at the Democrats for writing this law in the first place?

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, all you can do is squeal how unfair the process is. Truly amazing and quiet hypocritical I might add!

"Figures don't lie, liars figure" is one of the oldest addagios in the business world. We were just talking about polls and their impact on people's minds.

I've done market research (focus groups with moderators, questionnaires, statistical analysis, etc) and 2 things have remained firm in my mind:

1.- phrasing the poll questions is critical in getting the result;
2.- area targeted (zip codes)/ clusters is also critical.

Yankelevich Research's public opinion surveys IMO, are closest to the real thing. I have seen any bandied about for the public. // CA

Why such viral hatred?? Let's start with the "yellow belly coward" that stalks, as a predator of females, in our White House. Many of us haven't forgotten his draft dodging and lying about same, went overseas and demonstrated against his own country.

Yes, there were others do did the same draft dodging but they didn't become the President and none should, Democrate, Republican, Conservative, or whatever. The sacrilege of "him" going to a war memorial or grave yard, such as the fields at Normandy, full of brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice is beyond any bounds acceptable to decent people.

Following this glorious beginning, his life has been an example of what we use to call in the old days, "White Trash". Just because the polls would have some believe that the current "Pop Morality", which Clinto subscribes to, makes it OK for "him" to occupy "The Office", it doesn't change the principles on which made this country great.

To hell with what the French, Italians and citizens of any other country think about this investigation. This country has had to save their so called"sophiscated asses" in two world wars and they come crying to us for help when their economies go down the tube. They want us to be more like them. Anyone who worries about what they think is an idiot!

Even if "he" stays in office full term, when he leaves he won't have any skin left on his filthy hide. It's being stripped away layer by layer. Ken Starr has provided to the world a picture of the real Clinto, a lying, degenerate coward!

That is precisely why Congress has a duty to ignore the polls, and do what is right:

>>The people who tend to support Clinton in the current controversy are, if anything, rather lukewarm, generally arguing only that 1) Starr's team had no business snooping into the President's sex life, 2) it is not worth disrupting this nation's political life over so trivial a matter. <<

Lying under oath is never a trivial matter, because that means that someone else is being denied due process under the law. The Supreme Court has affirmed this view on occassion, allowing that perjury sometimes warrants "the severest of penalties". See the Starr Report for exact footnoted quotes referring to very real trials.

Michael Reagan is playing a recording of a phone conversation between Gennifer Flowers and Bill Clinton, in which Bill ends the conversation with "Good. All you gotta do is lie."

The conversation consisted of Bill Clinton inquiring as to exactly what Gennifer told the Dallas Morning News. Bill asked, "Has anyone else asked about it?" To which Gennifer says, "No, just the Dallas Morning News". Clinton replies, "Just as soon as anyone else asks about it, I want to know about it". He then asks what she told the DMN, and Gennifer says, "I told them there is nothing there, to leave me alone". Very shortly thereafter Bill concludes with the, "Good. All you gotta do is lie."

Clearly Bill Clinton has long been ready and able to proffer up the glib lie, as he showed us all this past January.

And yet this creature insists that he was telling the truth in the PJ deposition. Revolting. Book 'em, Danno.
