do you think this means CPQ will be getting alot of former dellheads as new shareholders, after the 3rd quarter numbers come in?
I doubt it, only the investors who don't know how to read the numbers. CPQ's 2Q numbers were depressed by nearly 50% since their sales in figures were held back to clear inventory. Sales out was about twice the reported sales numbers. It's easy to do the math, I've done it here and on the Dell thread. Dell's growth is real, but their 2Q share gains are not, it's a measurement error because of the difference in the way sales are calculated. CPQ, IBM and HP all sold less into the channel, but if you adjust for channel inventory drawdown their actual sales to customers were OK. Let's not get confused, they got paid for the channel inventory in '97, not '98. But if we're talking share, it's a different story.

And BTW, Dellheads NEVER SELL DELL...

Hey a great day for CPQ....I love it...We are as stable a stock as I've ever seen....Let Dell go up it's 4 points while we move 3/4 of a point, but when the market tanks, Dell will drop it's usual 5 points while we barely budge...*snore* I have the new slogan for Compaq...The company of the past, with the stock performance that proves it.
