That strategy paid off big time with APM initially. I started accumulating shares between 22 1/2 and 25. I waited patiently for about 6 weeks when their earnings came out. $25 to $35 in 3 days. I had bet the farm on that trade and won. The downside is that when you have those low volatility basing periods, the bias is for the break to occur in the direction of the longer term trend, there is no guarantee. I think waiting to see which way its going to break and then getting in is a good refinement of the strategy. You give up some, but you can't lose either. Beware of the long term downtrend. I learned that lesson early on trying to pick reversal points on basing stocks on a long term downtrend.
