Don the "three point" thing is interesting ..where did you see this???

Another thought... How about if Ebay sellers harvest the e-mails of the top buyers in an area.. say Roseville... tell those buyers of a piece listed on Yahoo.. the buyers will go to the site and bid...

Ebay has noted the possibility of this type of thing happening and put wording in the User Agreement trying to prevent this from happening... Like... one can't put a link in an auction item description which links to an auction on another service which is selling the same item from the same seller... This is just fine, but hard to control for Ebay...

As an example... I and two others were the only aggressive bidders on a certain type of china... This stuff was going for fairly high dollars.. If the Seller list the same stuff on a "free" auction and alerts the only serious buyers who are bidding high... the seller will do just as well in the final outcome and doesn't pay the listing fee and %... I have to say the fees are very reasonable on Ebay given the number of potential viewers...

It would be easy to harvest the high bidders in any one area...

The other thing is think of all the mom and pops out there who have never heard of Ebay... They will list there stuff on the "free auction.. It would be a good place to buy... and this in turn will bring higher prices and equalize the auction sites out there...

I still love Ebay and hope I get my 100 (of 1000 requested for my IRA)shares from E-trade... ;-)

If you signed up for shares via E-trade lets get together after the IPO and see who if any of us get shares at the IPO price... And maybe we can tell I put in for my shares on E-trade at ~1:00 PM on the first day... which was the 18th I believe...

Roger

as a stockbroker for the last 40 years i have never seen anyone be able to look into their cristyl ball and predict a stk would open<particuly 2 days away> i thought the law of supply and demand would determine the price on the opening. YES an initial first price would be within the 3 point filing range usually to the original shareholders. but not always.
